5 KEY STEPS WHEN WATER IS LEAKING FROM YOUR CEILING?

  1. Find and shut off the water to the house (Need help Finding your shut off? Click HERE) and discontinue all use to the drains, which may include dishwasher, washing machine, showers, sinks, etc.

  2. Find a bucket or bin to catch any water continuing to fall from the ceilings, (just use your best judgment, if the situation seems dangerous, then please remove yourself from the area).

  3. If there are any areas with standing water, grab some towels or mop and bucket to soak up as much as possible. Now in some cases, if it's too much water to handle. Try placing some towels down in areas that are not yet affected in order to slow and prevent further damage.

  4. Once you have done everything you can. Call a plumber to diagnose where the water is coming from. Once discovered and repaired. (This is something you will have to pay for out of pocket or potentially through your home Warranty, if you have it. Your homeowners insurance will most likely not cover the repairs). Reach out to a water mitigation company that can provide a professional assessment of the property.

  5. If the damage is extensive and the cost is more than you're comfortable with, consider filing a claim through your homeowner's insurance. In most cases, if the loss is sudden and a plumber has given you a report, you're most likely in the clear and your insurance will cover the cost of all the damages caused by the loss.
